Need help setting boundaries?
I hate setting boundaries - so how did I end up laughing, and listening to a book on this topic, multiple times?
One thing that can really upset our mental wellbeing is not being able to set boundaries. Sometimes it’s with a particular person. Sometimes setting any kind of boundaries can set off shear panic. And sometimes, we don’t even know we have the right to set a boundary. If you’re pressuring yourself to set boundaries - but don’t seem to be able to do it - consider what it was like when you were a kid. How were your boundaries treated? “Boundaries? What boundaries?” Yup! Me too! That’s where IFS can really help!
In addition to doing that treasured IFS inner work, I’d also like to suggest a wonderful book by Nedra Glover Tawwab: “Set Boundaries, Find Peace.” I have learned so much from this book - I’ve literally listened to it four or five times over the years.
By the way, I HIGHLY recommend you get the audio version! It’s read by Nedra herself, and she gives examples of what a conversation sounds like, in her own no-nonsense voice. I need that on repeat. Nedra is practical, funny, and confident. And it rubs off! This thing has been a life-changer for me. If you want to get the audio version, you can go to Libro.fm and part of the purchase will support a local bookstore of your choice.
